The Kiss

The KISS
"An artiest should be able to express himself from the inmost heart and this is also the only condition of being a painter; that is, to represent his inner world," said Gustav Klimt (1862-1918).

Klimt is one of my favorite Western artists and The Kiss is one of his works that I love the most. Klimt can be said Austrian national treasure in that The Kiss is always showed at the Vienna Airport.

At thirty-five, Klimt was one of the founders of the Vienna Secession that the "Secession" painters had an attack against traditional art forms, even against morals due to the imperialistic suppression.


Klimt is known by his “decorations.” The Kiss is a fascinating icon of the loss of self that lovers experience. Only the faces and hands of this couple are visible; all the rest is great swirl of gold, studded with colored rectangles as if to express visually the emotional and physical explosion of erotic love.
克林姆（西元1862~1918）認為：「一位藝術家應有發自內心的展現能力，這也是畫家的唯一要求，那就是把自己內心的世界呈現出來。」

克林姆是我最喜歡的西洋畫家之一，而他的作品--「吻」是我的最愛。克林姆可說是奧地利的國寶，連維也納機場都放著他這幅畫--「吻」。

35歲時，克林姆與其他同好一同創立「維也納分離派」，源起對帝國主義的鎮壓，轉而向傳統藝術規範、甚至是倫理規範加以攻擊。

克林姆最著名的即是他的「裝飾畫作」。「吻」表現出熱戀中男女失去自我的經驗。我們僅能清楚看到畫中戀人的臉和手，至於其他部分則是由黃金螺旋狀及彩色的方形圖案所填滿，以視覺方式表現出對性愛在情感與肉體上的釋放。
